My Mom the Editor ‘N Chief
Carol Morgan had an eye and an ear for writing. Memories from Author Seth Morgan.
My Mom invented a character called Billy Blue Car whom was the star of goodnight stories when I was a kid. Billy Blue Car had many adventures which I heard before bed around the age of 6. I could not wait to hear about what Billy Blue Car would do next each and every night.
My mom started me on Billy Blue Car and it wasn’t long before she was teaching me sentence structure and grammar. Writing was a struggle for me when I started High School at Regis Jesuit High School. Regis is a top high school in Colorado at every level. Millionaires of the area sent their kids to this school. My mom got me in. However, when I began high school i was behind in writing. My first report card at Regis was a 1.8 GPA.
I was embarrassed and unsatisfied with this result. My mom, Carol Morgan was ready and able to help me achieve the next level. Starting the second semester of my Freshman year my Mom read every essay I ever wrote and proof read it. Every time I had an essay to do I would write it on the Mac computer in the basement and print it off and my mom would mark it up with corrections which I would make later. We kept this routine up throughout high school into college. There was not better teacher of sentence structure and Grammar than my mom Carol Morgan. I started off getting a 1.8 GPA and throughout High School I never got lower than an A minus. I was a 4.0 student and an excellent writer. From 1.8 GPA to Magna Cum Laude in College. Thank you Mom.
If you detect any hint of talent or spark in my writing I credit 95% to my Mom Carol Morgan who would let me give her a piece of paper at 11pm and she would still mark it up and who me how to improve. She kept it up for years. She was a talented editor and writer in her own right. Thank you Mom. Thank you Carol Morgan.
